In accordance with the mission of Hingham High School “to graduate students with the academic, civic, social, and personal skills necessary to become productive, responsible members of a democratic and ever-changing global society,” Hingham’s School Counseling Program assists all students to maximize their personal and social development.

In addition, the program monitors the learning environment so that all students are respected and supported—both as learners and as human beings.  Hingham's School Counseling Department is a vital part of the educational process that helps students recognize their strengths and then assists them in designing specific plans of action to realize their full potential.  We expect all students to contribute to society and to the welfare of others in that society.

Hingham's school counselors and school adjustment counselors are well versed to help students adjust to the changes taking place in society.  The primary role of Hingham's School Counseling Department is to develop and implement a School Counseling Program that is coordinated, comprehensive, and developmental; one that will help all students acquire skills in the academic, personal, social, and career areas necessary for successfully living and working in society.  Hingham's school counselors and school adjustment counselors coordinate the objectives, strategies, and activities of the program.  In addition, Hingham school counselors and school adjustment counselors serve as student advocates, helping students meet the challenges of school and preparing them for transition into the world after high school.

Aware of the patterns of achievement and the behaviors that enhance student success, Hingham's school counselors and school adjustment counselors provide the leadership to identify the issues and initiate solutions.  Hingham's school counselors and school adjustment counselors are very active members of the professional team providing opportunities for all students to develop self-understanding, self-evaluation, and self-direction.  To this end, Hingham's school counselors and school adjustment counselors work closely with other educators, parents, and the community to help all students deal with the various facets of life.
