The School Resource officer is a member of the Hingham Police force assigned to Hingham High School as a liaison between the school and the police department. The officer serves as a resource for students and faculty alike, promoting positive student/police relations; enhancing knowledge of the fundamental concepts and structure of law; preventing delinquent behavior including substance abuse and truancy; and performing police functions within the school setting as needed. The resource officer participates in the school community by presenting in classrooms on law-related topics which integrate into the high school curriculum in a number of areas. Students are encouraged to speak with the officer in individual or small group conferences to further a classroom presentation or to seek help for any sensitive issues. The officer is familiar with community resources and can make referrals both within and outside of Hingham High School.
